5 smartphone apps you need for your summer road trip

Making like a Griswald and taking your vacation on the road this summer? Forgo the cumbersome maps and kitschy sing-along songs you associate with the dark ages and instead load up your phone with five apps that will have you cruising smoothly down the highway.

Google Maps: One of the 5 apps you need on the road this summer

Google Maps – iOS, Android

It seems obvious, doesn’t it? Of course you should have Google Maps on your phone. Doesn’t everybody? It’s totally obvious until you take the wrong exit and end up at a dead end in the middle of nowhere. Don’t take it for granted that your phone will automatically have a map app, and even if it does, ensure that you’ve enabled the Google Location Services so that you can use your device as a GPS. It doesn’t help if you have the app but you won’t allow it to show you where you are.

How to use “Lost Mode” for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch

Apple has a system inside of all their mobile devices you can use to track a lost or stolen iOS device. A tiny amount of preparation can help avoid a major panic if you misplace your iPod Touch, iPad or iPhone.

BEFORE you misplace your device you need to turn on Find my iPhone (it has the same name on all iOS devices)

Here’s a step by step guide on how to use ‘Lost Mode’ that will track your device when it tries to connect to the internet:

The Ultimate Gaming Computer

Only one cat poses. My other cat disdains

If you’re like me, your household is divided when it comes to computer usage. I use my computer for page layout, photo editing and light video production, which is what I do for a living. I use a MacBook Pro, and I love it like it was my third cat.

When my gaming daughter was shopping for a computer, she stopped me at “You should buy a Ma…” Apparently, my wonderful MacBook is not ideal (or in some cases, not capable) of running the games she plays. I can’t scoff at this, because kids these days are wining prizes in the neighbourhood of $10,000 at gaming tournaments, while I’m still working by the hour.

The Right Choice

Stickers on laptop = love

Stickers on laptop = love

Taylor did her homework and bought an ASUS (pronounced “ay-soos”) laptop. How do I know it was a right choice for her? One, I never hear her exaggerated sighs about lag time or delays; two, she lovingly tattooed her personality all over it with stickers.
